If we do not teach students to use AI properly, Big Tech will do it instead.
“Will AI make students lazy and cheat?”
-Maybe! But banning is not the strategy.
→ The truth is AI has been and is shaping the way students learn, think, and live.
If educators don’t lead the way, AI will lead instead – in ways we do not want.
So, what should we teach?
Here are 5 AI skills that students need to learn (and should learn as early as possible):
- Use prompts correctly – Apply the RTF formula (Role – Task – Format) so AI clearly understands the goal.
- Know how to adjust outputs – Learn to communicate with AI again to get results that are clear, concise, and accurate.
- Request step-by-step explanations – Don’t just accept the answer, let AI guide the process of understanding.
- Self-check knowledge – Use AI as a tool for practice and identifying gaps in understanding.
- Know when to… put AI away – Independent thinking and deep learning remain irreplaceable skills.
→ AI does not replace learning. But if used well, it can amplify learning many times over.
→ The issue is not the tool, but the user.
→ Let’s make students active learners with deep thinking.
